Navigation Rules Training ProgramThis program is a training aid for teaching the various light patterns, dayshapes, and sound signals listed in The International Regulations for Preventing Collision at Sea (72 COLREGS) and the U.S. Inland Rules. These lights, dayshapes, and sound signals form the foundation of an internationally recognized method of recognizing vessels and obstructions in various degrees of visibility. To start the program select the desired options below and click on the Begin button. The light patterns are broken into two categories: basic patterns cover recreational boats and other situations that are common in most areas. Advanced patterns cover various towing situations and special patterns such as submarines, hovercraft, etc. While using the program click on the Next button to view the next image or the Previous button to view the previous one. Clicking Quit at any time will end the program. Click on the Rule button at any time to view the text of the COLREGS regulation that corresponds to the scenario you are viewing. The full text of the COLREGS is available for viewing. When you run through this program you will notice two numbers in the upper right corner of the window. The numbers will be in the format "1/35". These numbers indicate the total number of rules that will be displayed on the right and the current number on the left. Requirements This training program requires a web browser that supports frames, JavaScript, and Java. It has been tested using Mozilla FireFox and Internet Explorer.
